Manabu Project: Preserving the Lessons from our Japanese American Elders

Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, JAMsj will now be hosting a livestream of Manabu Project: Preserving the Lessons From Our Japanese American Elders, available to watch on the JAMsj Facebook page. This virtual public program is a celebration of the culmination of JAMsj's year-long work on the Manabu Oral History Project, made possible with funds from the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program. Over the past year and a half, JAMsj has been able to transcribe over 20 previously recorded interviews and conduct a dozen new oral histories at the museum. Each oral history covers the interviewee's recollections of their family's WWII experience, and their unique ties to the Bay Area.

This livestream will be hosted on the JAMsj Facebook page and will walk viewers through the newly created oral history page. Manabu project manager and Tessaku creator, Diana Tsuchida will lead viewers through project highlights, video clips and findings from these oral histories, followed by a brief Q&A and discussion with grant participant, Richard Yamashiro, who was in Manzanar. Please “like” and bookmark the page to watch the stream: https://www.facebook.com/JAMsjOfficial/

Viewers are encouraged to participate with questions for the JAMsj team and Richard at any point. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding during this unprecedented moment - the health of our elders and community is our number one priority!
