We invite you to be part of the Japanese American Museum of San Jose’s capital campaign, a transformative endeavor to raise $3.5 million to ensure the lasting preservation and expansion of the museum. At JAMsj, we celebrate the vibrant heritage and rich history of the Japanese American community and our beloved museum stands as a testament to the resilience, strength, and remarkable contributions of generations past.
For 35 years, you - our volunteers, our supporters, our champions - have inspired and empowered us to protect this cherished institution. Thanks to your efforts and the contributions of previous generations, JAMsj has grown into a cherished institution in San Jose Japantown that we are determined to secure for generations and we need your support now more than ever as we work to strengthen our foundation and build our future.
Together we can:
1. Ensure a safe and welcoming space for visitors: Address critical infrastructure and maintenance needs of the main museum building by building a stronger foundation.
2. Increase community programs and activities: Expand our footprint by revitalizing the historic Kawakami House which honors the immigrant experience and creates and additional 1,600 square feet of remodeled space.
3. Share our treasures with guests: Preserve and safeguard our valuable collection of artifacts, photographs, and personal testimonies that serve as tangible links to our history and preserve our rich history for future generations.
4. Create Engaging Exhibits: Develop captivating exhibits that celebrate the courage, resilience, and cultural heritage of the Japanese American community, fostering greater understanding and appreciation among all who visit.
5. Enhance the visitor experience: Utilize innovative technology to enhance visitor experiences and extend our reach beyond our physical walls.
